Free Karate Demo

Ever thought of trying Karate, but been a bit unsure?
Ever thought that it might be good for your kids, but not too sure what they would be learning?

Well come a see a FREE Karate demo and find out! This will not be full of flashy techniques and breaking lots and lots of innocent building materials; this will be a demonstration and explanation of how and what we teach.

You will see:
* Effective, pragmatic self defence techniques
* Street psychology to avoid or de-escalate confrontation
* How small weak people can overcome larger stronger people
* Dealing with fear
* Why it is good for health and fitness
* Why it is good for self improvement (beyond just fighting skills)
* That it is a friendly club where all are welcome

Karate should really be for anybody (over 5 years of age) up to any age, regardless race, gender, social/religious/class background or fitness level.

When Karate is taught properly you learn the basics and principles first, then you adapt the Karate to suit yourself. You do not try to adapt yourself to do Karate. For example, if your joints are stiff you kick below the belt (where it is usually most effective) rather than trying to force yourself to kick head height. It is madness to learn to defend from other people damaging your body, then damage yourself trying to perform techniques that your body is not able to do properly!

So come along, bring your kids (if applicable), bring your friends, and find out why Holistic Karate is a little bit different!

PS: Existing martial artists who may want to come along just out of curiosity are more than welcome as well!

Anti Bullying Blogging Carnival

Colin Wee, 6th Dan Taekwondo is setting up an anti-bullying blogging carnival.  If you would like to be part of it, (or just read the posts) you can find out more Colin's Joong Do Kwan Blog

I have already published my submission which you can check out, entitled Are Traditional Martial Arts Any Use To Somebody Who Is Being Bullied?

Congratulations To Paul Mitchell On Attaining His 5th Dan

I would like to say a huge congratulations to my friend and Sensei, Paul Mitchell, on attaining his 5th Dan.  Those who know and train with him will not be surprised as Paul has an enormous depth of knowledge and ability.  Although I have trained for a number of years, only 3 of which have been with Paul, he has had a huge influence on my outlook and direction in Karate.

Paul, (who also teaches Tai Chi), holds regular applied Karate seminars and Tai Chi course which are open to none club members.  These are well worth attending for anybody who wants to gain a deeper understanding of either of these arts.

Paul is currently working on his own book, which will be a "must buy" for all Shotokan Karateka.  More about that when it gets closer to being published.

He is pictured here being presented with his 5th Dan certificate by Pete Manning, Chief Instructor of the Traditional Shotokan Karate Association.
